On Sunday Sept 25th at the Crowfoot branch.  There will be an Open chess in the library chess tournament.  The tournament will run from 12:30 to 4:00 pm.

Tournament participants who register in advance agree to participate for the duration of the event and should be at the library for a 1:00 start for round One.

Sections:

The event will be held in three sections, Adults, Girls, Boys.  Sections are proposed as open Swiss but could be round robins if numbers are low for a particular section.  The time controls for each game would be 10 min./ player with a 5 second delay.

Rounds:

The tournament will be 3 or 4 rounds in length depending on the number of entrants and how quickly the rounds are completed,

Each round could be about 40 to 50 minutes in length if participants use all of their clock time.

Subsequent rounds will start as soon as possible after completion of the previous round.

Rounds will be paired using either Round robin or Swiss system pairing rules.

Pairings will be posted and paired participants are both responsible for ensuring that a completed round result is registered with the tournament director.

A round will consist of 2 games played between paired participants (one game with the White pieces and one game with the Black pieces).  A won game will be awarded 1 point.  A drawn or tied game will be awarded 1/2 point.  A lost game will be awarded 0 points.

Registrations:

Section sizes are limited to 12 participants in each section. So enter early.

There are no at library registrations on the 25th.   Advance registrations for the event will close on Sept 20th.

Entry Fees:

This is a free event.  There is no cost to play.

Prizes:

There will be prizes for 1st through 3rd places in each section consisting of a medal for the 3 winners in each section for a total of 9 medals to be presented.  In the event of a tie for a medal prize, the tiebreaks to be used will be, firstly the head to head match result, secondly tiebreaks as generated by the pairing program in use for the event.  There may be other prizes or enhancements available.
