Hello,

Hope everyone is staying warm this February!

Chess in Calgary’s South

CJCC has been working at expanding our chess tournaments to other quadrants of the city and are happy to be working with Flying Minds to offer our first tournament that their Willow Park Centre location on March 16. https://www.calgaryjuniorchess.com/CJCC/event/event/47517

Calgary Chess Challenge

Calgary Chess Challenge registration is now open. The Chess Challenge series of tournaments is a rapid tournament based on school grade (Grades 1-12). Players will be sorted by grades (if numbers allow). The Calgary Chess Challenge is followed by the Alberta Chess Challenge which happens in Red Deer (April 12). Winners of the Alberta Chess Challenge will qualify to represent team Alberta at the Canadian Chess Challenge happening in Ottawa during the May long weekend. Please note that the Alberta Chess Challenge is not organized by CJCC this year. More info can be found on the ACA website.

Please note we’re still finalizing venue for the Calgary Chess Challenge, it will likely be at Renert with different times depending on section to keep numbers manageable. We’ve had feedback that while the space at the University of Calgary was large and accommodating, the tables were too big especially for younger players.
