Individuals entries are welcomed. We offer individual and team awards.  Onsite registration will NOT be available.

10 am –10:20 am Check in, 10:30 am Tournament starts

Entry fee: $25. 

Sections:

Div. 1  (Kindergarten-Grade 3)

Div. 2  (Grade 4-6)

Div. 3  (Grade 7-9)

Div 4   (Grade 10-12)

Players can play in a higher section if they would like to.

Venue: 

University of Calgary - ICT 114

Format: “Swiss System” where players play other in same score group.  Players from same school won’t meet unless the school has a large portion of the entire event.  Total of 5 rounds.

Top 4 Players will contribute to the School Team Score. Homeschool teams must give themselves a separate name.

All participants must have a CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) ID. To find out the player's CFC ID number visit: https://www.chess.ca/en/ratings/ and enter your name.  If you have never played official tournament chess in Canada, you will need to create a free account on the CFC website which will allow you to have a CFC number.  In order to join visit:  https://www.chess.ca/en/players/membership-join/

Time control: Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second bonus per move.

Special rules: No agreed draws are allowed before move 30 (ACA Junior Draw Rule). Players are not allowed to talk to anyone (including parents, coaches, and other participants) except the TD during their games. It is forbidden for players to have cell phones, or other electronic communication, computer, or media devices in the tournament room. 

Prizes:

Team prizes for each division:

Top school: 1st, 2nd place trophy for the school

Top team: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place medals for top 4 players in the winning team.  Teams may order similar medals for other participants.

Individual prizes:

Top 3 individuals and Top Girl in each division: Trophies

All other participants will get coloured chess pieces.
